Cables work under constant tension with the spring system — 5 Star Garage Door Service checks the full assembly, not just the visible fray point.
We built our Garage Door Cable Repair service around Kettering, OH customers who need a specialist, not a generalist working outside their depth.
This specialization is why Kettering, OH customers call us back for the same issue instead of shopping around each time.
A cable slipped off its drum gets diagnosed for the underlying cause, not just re-seated.
Galvanized aircraft cable resists fraying far longer than standard cable in humid Kettering, OH conditions.
Every job includes a post-repair tension and balance check.
A visibly fraying cable is treated as a near-term emergency.
Even a few loose strands mean a cable is close to failing under load — replacement cable gets sized to match your spring tension exactly.
A cable that's already snapped usually means the door dropped or hangs crooked — we stabilize it before beginning repair.
A cable that's slipped off its drum causes uneven hanging — we re-seat it and correct the underlying cause.
Extension spring systems should run safety cables to prevent whip-back — older doors often lack them entirely.
The bracket anchoring the cable to the door corrodes over time — rust and corrosion at the anchor get addressed before they cause sudden release.

Visible fraying — loose strands sticking out — is the clearest sign.
Don't attempt to operate the door manually until it's inspected.
We don't recommend it — cables work under spring tension requiring proper tools.
Torsion systems typically don't require the same safety cable.
Visible fraying at any point means replacement, regardless of age.
